“You realise an artist is of great import when you can break down their contribution to a scene into single words. Prescription. The Music Institute. KMS. Chicago's Chez Damier has plenty of associations which are spoken of in reverent terms within house music circles. Damier's first major involvement in the scene dates back to the late '80s and the opening of The Music Institute, the club he founded in Detroit alongside Alton Miller and George Baker that was instrumental in techno's development in the city. Around this time he was also a label manager and recording artist for Kevin Saunderson's KMS, releasing all-time greats like Can You Feel It and Untitled. Upon moving back to the Windy City around 1993, Damier hooked up with Ron Trent to create Prescription: The run of singles they released up until 1995 are among the most influential pieces of house music even committed to wax, taking in many of their own titles in collaboration—"Morning Factory," "Sometimes I Feel Like," "Be My." - Resident Advisor
Saturday 6.11 Dancing Room Only: Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) and Rissa Garcia at House of X
Since its inception in 2015, the resident DJ and founder, Rissa Garcia, has specifically curated Dancing Room Only to deliver nights that maximize dancefloor damage in the spirit of the NY dance-underground heyday. On Saturday May 14th, we are pleased to welcome Tony Humphries to House of X.
Rivera, born January 18th 1971 and started his career at age 13 as a DJ in his native Spanish Harlem. He began producing house music in 1992, specializing in a more soulful sound. He has worked under a variety of pseudonyms, including Kings of Tomorrow, Soul Vision and Mysterious People, either alone or with partners Jose Burgos, HAZE and Jay 'Sinister' Sealee (Rivera parted ways with Sealee in 2002). He is the owner of labels BlackWiz (founded 1993) and Deep Vision Records (founded 1995).
Rivera's best known track is "Finally", released in 2000 as Kings of Tomorrow on Distance Records, with vocals by Julie McKnight, which peaked at number 24 in the UK Singles Chart[2] and at number 17 on the Billboard dance chart, and appeared in a large number of compilations from labels such as Defected Records, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, and Warner Music. The track is included in K.O.T.'s first album It's in the Lifestyle. The same album also yielded the track "Young Hearts". The vocal version of "Finally" was also used as a part of a remixed single by the British act Layo & Bushwacka for their 2003 single "Love Story (vs. Finally)". The second K.O.T. album was released in 2005, titled Trouble. Rivera claims this is his first album produced without recourse to samples, and marks the official separation between this and other aliases: Kings of Tomorrow is used for more radio-friendly tracks, while his real name will be used for club-friendly tracks.
As a producer and remixer, Sandy Rivera has worked for a variety of other artists, including veteran jazz musician Terry Callier, Gisele Jackson, Bini & Martini, Michelle Weeks, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Walter L. Robinson.

Saturday 1.8.22 Dancing Room Only with Danny Krivit & Rissa Garcia
A legend of the dance and disco scene since the heyday of New York club culture, Danny Krivit is no doubt one of dance music’s living legends. Growing up in Greenwich Village, New York City, in the 60s, Danny was surrounded by music. His father was the manager of legendary jazz trumpeter Chet Baker before he went on to open up “The Ninth Circle”, a Village hot spot that allowed Danny the opportunity to DJ at an early age. Learning the ropes and taking notes from early legends like David Mancuso and Larry Levan, Danny soon made a name for himself throughout the dance floors of New York City. He is one-third of the legendary Body & Soul NYC crew alongside Francois K and Joe Claussell and he just recently celebrated the 19th anniversary of 718 Sessions, his monthly residency party in New York. We are elated to host this dance music icon.
Danny will be joined by Dancing Room Only resident DJ, Rissa Garcia.

Rissa Garcia Untitled Music Q&A and Mix
What I admire about Rissa Garcia is that she is just doing what she loves week in week out. You never hear any bullshit from her, she is consistently working hard at her passions, be that DJ’ing or her well respected label Nightchild Records. For someone at the heart of the NYC club scene and one of the most connected people I know I actually know zero about the person behind it all. In an era of obsessive gender equality she is the real poster child for the scene - time-served, hard-working, low-profile and passionate about quality over hype.

Music, most importantly. People that doubted me, people that hope I fail at every turn. And honestly,I really can’t fathom a life without doing this so I’ll do whatever it takes to keep on doing it. A few years ago, I decided I didn’t want to live the robot lifestyle of working 9-5 day in and day out while daydreaming of doing what I really wanted to do and what I felt so deeply to my core I really should be doing.
From the outside world you’re very low profile but very successful - what’s the secret of your success?
