Vinyl Only Release Coming Soon: Anna Cavazos | Love Interlude Remixes

The EP kicks off with the original of ‘Love Interlude’ - melancholic and piano-heavy with an ultra-deep baseline embellished with warm pads and soulful drums. Anna’s soulful vocal floats above the melody creating an emotional and moving interlude.

Next up Matthias Vogt delivers a deep-house masterpiece adding extra keys, drum accents, and a well-placed baseline that is weaved neatly into the vocal hook while Vogt delivers the warm, jazz-flecked vibrations he is well known for.

On the flip side, Rick Wade weighs in with some ever so classy house laced with flashes from the Motor City of Detroit. Warm electro piano, glowing synths, and vocal parts contrast with the deep sub baseline.

Closing out this EP Rissa Garcia draws heavily on her New York house inspirations. Organ riffs and a funk-inspired bass line lead the charge dropping in and out between vocal harmonies and subtle synth work. Percussive accents bring it all home making this closing cut one dancefloor destroying, peak-time bomb.

New Remix Due out on house legend Harry Romero's Bambossa Label

Bambossa Records is the New York based label from heavyweight house music producer Harry Romero, all sourced and mastered from his own Butchashop studio. A humble house legend, Harry Romero cut his teeth during the heyday of New York’s vibrant club scene and has continually proven to be one of the finest advocates of bona fide house music ever since. He remains a firm favorite in the dance music world, delighting fans across the globe with his compelling selector sets and iconic productions, championed by major DJs on legendary stages. Bambossa has been running for over twenty years, consistently churning out top quality releases. Since its relaunch in 2020, highlights for the label have been a chart-topping collaboration from Louie Vega & Harry Romero, a viral remix of Basement Jaxx’s ‘Romeo’ from Harry, as well as original music from the hottest emerging underground producers such as HoneyLuv, Alinka, Gettoblaster, & Elisa Elisa.

Up next on the East Coast house label is the emerging talent of Di Saronno with his single ‘Jam In My Veins’. The Italian sample-heavy producer is no stranger to support from legendary artists as well as great club tracks and can boast releases on labels such as Nervous Records, Dopewax, Henry Street, Trax Records, and many more.

Echoing house classics, ‘Jam In My Veins’ this rhythmic-groover brings out the brightness of the summer whilst making you reach for the nightclub’s disco ball in the middle of the night. The filtered beats and jazzy saxophone keeps you swinging those hips whilst the power booming voice keeps you focused on the track, this is proper house music at its best.

On remix duties is New York DJ & Producer Rissa Garcia who has been a force within the big apple for over two decades and has shared the decks with some of the most iconic names in dance music. On her reimaged version, she takes the track in a more heads down slightly more serious approach. Still with the same saxophone and vocal in place but now with a new strong direction.

Dancing Room Only with Tony Humphries & Rissa Garcia at Jolene Sound Bar

When thinking about Tony Humphries, you might be minded of his epic stint at KISS FM as one of its greatest Mastermixers; or of his residency at one of the greatest US clubs, The Zanzibar; or, even, the walls that are lined with gold discs, from Indeep to Janet Jackson; or even his legendary eclecticism. Tony is all of those things and more. But then, there’s the Tony of today, restless, questing, searching for new challenges. Which is pretty much how Tony has always been. Few people realise just how deeply steeped in performing Tony Humphries’ family is. His father, Rene Grand, an émigré from Colombia in the 1950s, was a prominent bandleader in New York, alongside peers like Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri. Plus he has a raft of cousins, uncles and aunts who have forged a career in the performing arts. Tony was born to it. Tony Humphries has been DJing nearly 35 years, an incredible achievement that in any other industry would have been rewarded with a carriage clock or service medal. His big break came through a chance meeting with Mastermixer Shep Pettibone at the offices of Prelude Records. Tony handed the maestro a tape and the rest is history. Humphries’ star rose as his KISS FM show (and later HOT 97) lasted for decades. Although Humphries was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he has long been associated with New Jersey and the reason for that is his long-held residency at Club Zanzibar in Newark that began in 1982. Zanzibar became synonymous with a new soulful electronic sound, labelled the Jersey sound, but with Tony’s hands at the tiller it was a vastly more varied menu than that suggests. “It wasn’t like going to a house club, everything was intertwined,” explains Tony. “The hours were long, so obviously you didn’t want to hear ten hours of straight house music. If you’re going to pay $15-20 to hear this guy, you want to hear the whole damn spectrum. You had to come with everything possible. Talking Heads and The B-52s don’t sound like Zanzibar/Garage records, but they were. I think that’s what the Zanzibar’s appeal was.” Although Tony is often seen more as a DJ than a remixer, his forays into the studio have always been productive. His remix of Mtume’s ‘Juicy Fruit’ has been sampled on several big hip hop and R&B hits and Fresh Band’s ‘Come Back Lover’ is rightly regarded as one of the best disco songs of the 1980s. He has gone on to remix scores of artists from Soul II Soul to Janet Jackson (which earned him a gold disc). Poignantly, Tony was enticed back into the studio in 2013 by Frankie Knuckles who asked Tony to do a swap mix for a track he’d been working on. As Frankie told Tony, “You’re a great remixer. I just thought folks needed to be reminded.”

He's joined by Dancing Room Only founder, Rissa Garcia

FAITH FANZINE

Spring 2023 Issue

Haring’s HOUSE!

When the first major UK exhibition of Keith Haring’s work arrived at Liverpool’s Tate Gallery in 2019, much of the press attention focused on the artist’s submersion in the downtown scene and New York street culture of the early 1980s. While it is true that the art of Haring gestated at Club 57, Fun Gallery and Mudd Club, and that he took much inspiration from street art and breakdancing, it was at the Paradise Garage where Haring found his tribe and experienced the spiritual uplift of communal dancing.

If he was still around, we at Faith kind of hope Keith Haring would feel part of our community. So here in this very special Spring issue tribute we go deeper into the HOUSE OF KEITH HARING with the help of those that knew him and were inspired by him.

A huge thank you to Gil & Annelise at the Keith Haring Foundation for their assistance with making this happen. As ever, issues of Faith wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of our editorial team, contributors, designer, advertisers, distributors and all of the photographers that allow us to use their imager. We thank you. The Spring issue is limited and is available to pre-order now via the bio link.

Keep The Faith.

This issue is dedicated to the memory of Oliver Park. May your soul & spirit shine on.
