“One of the most gifted and focused production teams in the New York house underground, John “Roc” Mateo and Eddie “E-Z” Matos were both educated in the warm vibe of disco first-hand by listening to classic DJs on New York radio during the late ’70s.”
-Feel My Bicep
They have been inspired by listening to Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, Shep Pettibone and Little Louie Vega. They were introduced to Vega later that year, learning about studio production and engineering from him, and by 1989, they were working on their own productions. In the years from 1986 through 1989 Mateo & Matos performed at a large number of club festivals and old school block parties in the tri-state area of New York. After several releases on their own Final Cut Records label, they went on to record for Oxygen Music Works, Henry Street, Nervous Records, Nite Grooves and Spiritual Life Music in the mid-1990s. Their debut album as producers, New York Rhythms, appeared on the Scottish Glasgow Underground Recordings label in 1997, with a second volume appearing the following year. In 1999, these were followed by The Many Shades of Mateo & Matos.
They’ve since brought their work to deejay appearances in over 30 countries and dozens of original productions and remixes on record labels such as Manuscript Records Ukraine, King Street Records, Defected Records, and Large Records.
They’ll be joined by resident and NYC house main stay Rissa Garcia.

Just Announced | Dancing Room Only: Greco & Ant Larock, Rissa Garcia and Day Cart
Greco(Strictly Rhythm/Dopewax/Rawsome)
A young man driven by a fundamental motivation whose character is not strictly confined to the walls of a studio would be a definition fit for DJ/Producer Thomas Greco. His passion within the industry to create art as a means to express himself musically as well as a means to communicate with his audience separate this artist from the rest. His style includes creating a kinetic energy throughout his audience that would express the character he embodies within his art. Such an ambitious character is one that demonstrates a light sense of humor and a positive attitude that motivates his audience to simply have a great time and dance!
Ant La Rock(Nervous/D-Vine Sounds/Dopewax)
Ant LaRock's first single was picked up by Todd Terry's InHouse Records, propelling him amongst House royalty. After several releases, 2015 brought major label remixes for the likes of Giorgio Moroder's pairing with Kyle Minogue on "Right Here Right Now" and future pop icon Petite Meller's "Babylove". Ant's contributions helped both singles land heavily on Billboard Dance charts as well as on dance floors. Later that year Ant produced a dirty floor-stomper for Charlotte Devaney's collaboration with Snoop Dogg on Vigin/EMI. An April 2015 collaboration with his mentor, Todd "the God" himself, welcomed the Ministry of Sound release of "Back Around" followed by the subsequent remix EP on Inhouse. 2016 is starting off with a bang for Ant with a fresh EP on the venerable Nervous Records. Constantly innovating, bending genres and refining, Ant LaRock demands attention.
Rissa Garcia(Resident Dancing Room Only)
Born and raised with the classic NYC influences all around her, she has become a driving force of her hometown scene. In addition to running NightChild records, she is the founder & resident DJ of the Dancing Room Only NYC which has welcome several legends behind the decks including DJ Spinna, Danny Krivit, Todd Terry and Jellybean Benitez.
Day Cart
Growing up in the Tri-State area, Day Cart, aka Harrison Williams, was exposed to the tenacious and bustling nightlife scene that has evolved in NYC. Dance music became a firm passion of his after attending various house and techno warehouse parties that seemed to pop up like weeds, and he quickly plugged himself into the community. After exploring the wide range of genres and styles that are ever present within the culture, Harrison was hooked to the gritty underground where music is a shared obsession by many who find themselves wrapped up in the dimly lit rooms.
With a degree in Philosophy and Psychology he has used his skills to analyze and interpret the disparate emotions felt while in the dance. He spent time as the Managing Editor of Magnetic Magazine and is currently the East Coast Editor at the renowned Mixmag Magazine located in the Brooklyn office.
Also an experienced DJ, he has held a monthly residency at one of the Lower East Side’s most attended DIY venues, Leftfield NYC, and continues to put on events dubbed Goonroom with co-founder Wig-Wam.
Jellybean Benitez Takes us back to the Funhouse!
On Thursday January 26th, Jellybean Benitez joins Dancing Room Only with a special Funhouse/Paradise Garage style classic house set.
“A giant of New York City club culture during the 1980s, John “Jellybean” Benitez was born to a Puerto Rican mother in the South Bronx. Gravitating toward music at a young age, he started frequenting disco clubs in the mid ‘70s and quickly became an established DJ in the scene.

“A giant of New York City club culture during the 1980s, John “Jellybean” Benitez was born to a Puerto Rican mother in the South Bronx. Gravitating toward music at a young age, he started frequenting disco clubs in the mid ‘70s and quickly became an established DJ in the scene.
Although he would go on to play at a variety of storied nightspots, including Studio 54, Paradise Garage and Electric Circus, Benitez truly made his mark with a residency at the Fun House in Manhattan, which he held from 1981 to 1984. During those years, his production and remix career also took off, as he reworked seminal tracks from Rockers Revenge, Jimmy Spicer and Afrika Bambaataa; two of his remixes from 1983’s Flashdancesoundtrack also became sizeable hits. Around the same time, he was enlisted by Madonna to contribute to her debut album, producing “Holiday” (her first hit) and remixing several other tracks.” - Redbull Music Academy
“A world away from the red rope exclusivity of Studio 54, a group of working class kids from New York's outer boroughs created their own alternative scene. Their place of worship was the Fun House and the high priest of hedonism a Latino DJ from the South Bronx named John "Jellybean" Benitez.” -RBMA
Also joining us is David Paglia of Soul Clap Records he'll be closing the night ensuring us a safe landing back home.
David Paglia has releases on Soul Clap Records, Cenote Records and Good Company Records as well as a vinyl press of edits/remixes, Dojo Sessions Volume 1, that flew off the shelves at Halcyon Record Shop in Brooklyn and Love Vinyl in London, UK. His productions have received support from Soul Clap, Bosq, Moodymann, Mark Slee, Thomas Jack, and The Juan Maclean in his mix for Defected Radio.

“Danny Krivit's 45-year DJ career reads like the evolution of dance music itself. He grew up in the '60s, experiencing the very earliest days of New York disco, and later gained a musical education at some of the world's most legendary nightspots. The Loft, The Gallery, The Paradise Garage—Danny was a regular at them all. Remarkably, Krivit is one of only a handful of DJs other than Larry Levan to have played at The Garage.
"THE ONE THING THAT CAN SOLVE MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS IS DANCING.”
- JAMES BROWN
Sometimes the answer to all of life’s problems is to throw down on the dancefloor! Dancing Room Only NYC, in contrast to today’s more voyeuristic club experiences, intends to take the focus back to the dancefloor. We inspire to hire some of the world’s top talents who've proven to be successful in maintaining a heavy dancefloor vibe reminiscent of the "good old days" alongside some of NYC's finest local talent. Cielo was recently named one of the Top 100 Clubs around the world and here’s why:
Located in New York City’s Meatpacking District, Cielo is a Manhattan nightclub that blends modernity with retro style, a self-proclaimed “mature” experience designed purely for music and dancing. Cielo is an intimate space—holding about 300 people—armed with a Funktion One sound system and a specially designed sunken dance floor, decked out with warm-hued tones bathed in an extensive lighting system.
Cielo largely focuses on house and techno, but it has played host to all sorts of parties, including Francois K’s weekly Monday Deep Space night focusing on music inspired by and in dialogue with dub, Wednesday’s house-focused Roots with Louie Vega and Kevin Hedge, and alternating special events on weekends.
“An embodiment of NY dance culture, this intimate, lounge-like venue, with a Funktion One set-up, is our most significant link between the ashes of the club kid era of the ’90s — when venues like Twilo, Limelight and Tunnel ruled the roost — and today’s generation coming through.
Resistant to the ongoing wave of EDM crashing over the US, ex-Pacha resident Nicolas Matar’s club has stuck to its roots, regularly hosting François K’s Deep Space parties and other local legends like Louie Vega, Danny Krivit and Def Mix top dogs David Morales and Hector Romero still, while Fritz Kalkbrenner and HELENA visited just last month.”

Dancing Room Only NYC Presents Forward Disco featuring Danny Krivit
“Danny Krivit's 45-year DJ career reads like the evolution of dance music itself. He grew up in the '60s, experiencing the very earliest days of New York disco, and later gained a musical education at some of the world's most legendary nightspots. The Loft, The Gallery, The Paradise Garage—Danny was a regular at them all. Remarkably, Krivit is one of only a handful of DJs other than Larry Levan to have played at The Garage.
Krivit's experiences in the '70s and '80s have had a lasting effect on him, informing almost every move he's made since. His legendary Body & Soul night, co-founded with François Kevorkian and Joe Claussell, and 718 Sessions, his still hugely popular monthly party, were established on principles laid down during this golden period. Aside from his illustrious DJ career, Krivit is also a remix legend. He has over 130 editing credits to his name, including his rework of MFSB's "Love Is the Message," which is considered by many to be the greatest edit of all time. “
