The Nursery w/Soul Clap, Dj Spinna & Rissa Garcia Sunday 8.6

In May, Public Records will open the doors to its latest venture, an outdoor event space located directly adjacent to our current Garden space, simply named The Nursery. For our first season open, our music programming team has curated an eclectic series of Sunday parties that spans genres and perfectly encapsulates all that we are and where we aim to go. From May 28th to October 8th, every single Sunday we will present these diverse and exciting lineups in the Nursery. The Boston-bred duo Soul Clap have been sharing their profound love of house and its many shapes and styles for over 20 years. Whether they’re behind the decks at any of the world’s most influential clubs, running their eponymous record label, doing workshops, collaborating with legends speaking on panels or crate digging to unearth deep cuts and iconic gems, these two are pushing boundaries, opening minds and shifting energies every day. They’ll take over the Nursery with a few friends for seven hours of pure elation.

Limited tickets will be sold at the door. Doors at 3PM

Dancing Room Only with Tony Humphries & Rissa Garcia at Jolene Sound Bar

When thinking about Tony Humphries, you might be minded of his epic stint at KISS FM as one of its greatest Mastermixers; or of his residency at one of the greatest US clubs, The Zanzibar; or, even, the walls that are lined with gold discs, from Indeep to Janet Jackson; or even his legendary eclecticism. Tony is all of those things and more. But then, there’s the Tony of today, restless, questing, searching for new challenges. Which is pretty much how Tony has always been. Few people realise just how deeply steeped in performing Tony Humphries’ family is. His father, Rene Grand, an émigré from Colombia in the 1950s, was a prominent bandleader in New York, alongside peers like Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri. Plus he has a raft of cousins, uncles and aunts who have forged a career in the performing arts. Tony was born to it. Tony Humphries has been DJing nearly 35 years, an incredible achievement that in any other industry would have been rewarded with a carriage clock or service medal. His big break came through a chance meeting with Mastermixer Shep Pettibone at the offices of Prelude Records. Tony handed the maestro a tape and the rest is history. Humphries’ star rose as his KISS FM show (and later HOT 97) lasted for decades. Although Humphries was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he has long been associated with New Jersey and the reason for that is his long-held residency at Club Zanzibar in Newark that began in 1982. Zanzibar became synonymous with a new soulful electronic sound, labelled the Jersey sound, but with Tony’s hands at the tiller it was a vastly more varied menu than that suggests. “It wasn’t like going to a house club, everything was intertwined,” explains Tony. “The hours were long, so obviously you didn’t want to hear ten hours of straight house music. If you’re going to pay $15-20 to hear this guy, you want to hear the whole damn spectrum. You had to come with everything possible. Talking Heads and The B-52s don’t sound like Zanzibar/Garage records, but they were. I think that’s what the Zanzibar’s appeal was.” Although Tony is often seen more as a DJ than a remixer, his forays into the studio have always been productive. His remix of Mtume’s ‘Juicy Fruit’ has been sampled on several big hip hop and R&B hits and Fresh Band’s ‘Come Back Lover’ is rightly regarded as one of the best disco songs of the 1980s. He has gone on to remix scores of artists from Soul II Soul to Janet Jackson (which earned him a gold disc). Poignantly, Tony was enticed back into the studio in 2013 by Frankie Knuckles who asked Tony to do a swap mix for a track he’d been working on. As Frankie told Tony, “You’re a great remixer. I just thought folks needed to be reminded.”

Resident Advisor: "Rissa Garcia provided a lesson in the body-rocking house"

Rissa Garcia at Forestrave
Antony Hot - "Colours"

Given Eris Drew and Octo Octa's Midwest rave background and the fact that they live together in rural New Hampshire, there was something very personal and special about their curated stage, Forestrave. A small cabin dwarfed by a giant sound system (with no less than 40 subs), it featured a lineup of close friends and contemporaries and offered a window into the T4T LUV NRG world. Drew and Octo Octa both played back-to-backs across the weekend–the former with stateside rave veteran Mystic Bill and the latter with edit queen Bored Lord–and Forestrave provided a constant source of joy for fluorescent, anorak-clad ravers and high fashion voguers alike. The best set on this stage was arguably New York's Rissa Garcia. The Dancing Room Only resident provided a lesson in the body-rocking house associated with her hometown, opting for plenty of classic cuts alongside fresh heat like Antony Hot's "Colours."- Resident Advisor

Rissa Garcia at ADE 2022: Women of House

After two years at Prik during ADE, WOMEN OF HOUSE return's and presents SHAKERS:

A past collaboration with Prik with a three month run, SHAKERS is a female djs line-up event. The light has been shined universally on inequality in all work industries between women and men. This problem that exists around the world sadly also exists in our own dance music industry. We need to counter this with more women asked to participate in events and more women djs to headline them. We presented SHAKERS, an event that focuses on removing the sexism and misogyny in Dance Music Culture by inviting artists to perform on a unique event dedicated to female Djs.
Let’s shake it on the sounds from

“You realise an artist is of great import when you can break down their contribution to a scene into single words. Prescription. The Music Institute. KMS. Chicago's Chez Damier has plenty of associations which are spoken of in reverent terms within house music circles. Damier's first major involvement in the scene dates back to the late '80s and the opening of The Music Institute, the club he founded in Detroit alongside Alton Miller and George Baker that was instrumental in techno's development in the city. Around this time he was also a label manager and recording artist for Kevin Saunderson's KMS, releasing all-time greats like Can You Feel It and Untitled. Upon moving back to the Windy City around 1993, Damier hooked up with Ron Trent to create Prescription: The run of singles they released up until 1995 are among the most influential pieces of house music even committed to wax, taking in many of their own titles in collaboration—"Morning Factory," "Sometimes I Feel Like," "Be My." - Resident Advisor

Rissa Garcia joins Eris Drew & Octo Octa for T4T LUV NRG Stage at Draaimolen Festival, Netherlands

It is time for new challenges, but all the wild dreams we have do not properly fit in just one day. Therefore, we are scaling up! We keep doing this in 2022 but with a program twice as long and twice as beautiful. These two days will be filled with the familiar Draaimolen features, such as the unexpected b2b’s, brand new stage hostings next to the return of some old friends, special live performances and our annual secret b2b, whilst more adventures and site specific collaborations are in the making… Hopefully we’ll see you at the very first Draaimolen weekend <3 Tickets The first weekend tickets are available on Wednesday December 15th at 20:00h CET.
