DJ Times Review: Rissa Garcia-Wanna Feel Loved EP

WannaFeelLoved_RissaGarcia_FacebookBanner.jpg

“A sweet three pack EP here from Garcia, a New York house mainstay. I Wanna Feel kicks a hip-swaying, tribal tinged groove -perfect for a dark dancefloor. “Tryna Prove” rides a tough rhythm until a combo of sweet key stabs and scat singing delivers a catchy melody. “Outta Love” thumps and builds with a purpose - a real call to the dancefloor - then drops intoxicating vocal samples for hand-raising effect. If you want a taste of modern deep house sounds, here’s the real thing."

Mixmag Premiere: Rissa Garcia- Tryna Prove

NYC-based Rissa Garcia, the Dancing Room Only resident DJ and founder of NightChild Records, steps up to release her debut in the ‘Wanna Feel Loved’ EP via her own imprint, which features the jacking house anthem ‘Tryna Prove’.

Having been inspired by Danny Tenaglia during his residency at Club Vinyl from 1999 through 2004, Rissa Garcia has been avidly collecting records and rinsing them at various high-profile club gigs for over a decade. She’s shared the decks with legends including Danny Krivit, Todd Terry, Tony Humphries, Kenny Dope and Ultra Nate, among others, and her own productions channel the vast amount of dance music knowledge she’s accumulated over the years. Her first release is a massive step out of the DJ booth and proves there’s much more to come from this rising talent.

Rissa Garcia’s ‘Wanna Feel Loved’ EP is set for release December 21.

“One of the most gifted and focused production teams in the New York house underground, John “Roc” Mateo and Eddie “E-Z” Matos were both educated in the warm vibe of disco first-hand by listening to classic DJs on New York radio during the late ’70s.”
-Feel My Bicep

They have been inspired by listening to Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, Shep Pettibone and Little Louie Vega. They were introduced to Vega later that year, learning about studio production and engineering from him, and by 1989, they were working on their own productions. In the years from 1986 through 1989 Mateo & Matos performed at a large number of club festivals and old school block parties in the tri-state area of New York. After several releases on their own Final Cut Records label, they went on to record for Oxygen Music Works, Henry Street, Nervous Records, Nite Grooves and Spiritual Life Music in the mid-1990s. Their debut album as producers, New York Rhythms, appeared on the Scottish Glasgow Underground Recordings label in 1997, with a second volume appearing the following year. In 1999, these were followed by The Many Shades of Mateo & Matos.

They’ve since brought their work to deejay appearances in over 30 countries and dozens of original productions and remixes on record labels such as Manuscript Records Ukraine, King Street Records, Defected Records, and Large Records.

They’ll be joined by resident and NYC house main stay Rissa Garcia.

Just Announced: Dance of the Dead: Tony Humphries, Maurice Fulton & Rissa Garcia

Halloween FBCover.jpg

Special Halloween Night Edition of Dancing Room Only with Legendary Tony Humphries. Also joining celebrating is birthday Maurice Fulton!

Tony Humphries became a DJ in the early 1980s. He was one of the earliest proponents of house music and has been instrumental in spreading the genre on both sides of the Atlantic. Humphries' work encompasses studio production and remixes, radio slots on WRKS 98.7 Kiss-FM and Hot 97, and DJ residencies at clubs including Club Zanzibar (Newark, New Jersey) and Ministry of Sound in London, UK

Maurice Fulton is one of house music’s true originals, an eccentric ex-pat American (currently living in Melbourne) DJ and producer who never fails to surprise and delight his listeners. His first album since the leftfield Stories Of A Broken Heart And Recovering which he recorded as Ladyvipb (for Nuphonic) is an altogether more accessible and dancefloor friendly affair... Maurice Fulton has been round the block in more ways than one, not only did he have a hand in producing Gypsy Woman by Crystal Waters, one of the most successful house tunes of the early ‘90s; he is the darling of both the underground house and leftfield scenes with an enviable back catalogue, he also has a capacity for landing himself ‘in the soup’.

Step into this weeks hot and soapy LoveBath with NYC’s underground warrior, Rissa Garcia. Has head cheese over at Nightchild Records and resident and spearhead for the roving party series, Dancing Room Only, Rissa has takin’ her licks and earned her stripes working just as hard on the dancefloor as she does in the booth.

Here, she blesses us with an hour long mix chalk full of the classic, New York flavored deep house she’s become known for. This is what real house music sounds like kiddies….pay attention and get wet!

Thurs. April 5th: Hector Romero’s Birthday Bash w/Fred Everything

Logo_FB_BN_TS.png

Dancing Room Only x Forward Disco present Hector Romero's Birthday Bash with Fred Everything.

Picture the summer 1983…In the Bronx, NY a block party, also known as a street jam, is in full effect. A 13 year old kid steps in front of the turntables and starts playing a combination of Latin, House and Hip Hop music. The crowd goes wild and quickly the neighborhood nicknames the young kid ‘Baby Hec’ Romero. As his notoriety and age grows, he finds himself playing at the premier Latin Dance Club ‘La Mirage’, and doing nights at the hippest street club the ‘Devils Nest’. The very same club where friend Louie Vega got his start. Soon after that, "Baby Hec" Romero (a name that has taken years to shed) found himself DJ-ing at some of New York City’s legendary clubs and underground spots such as Save the Robots, The Red Zone, famed Palladium, and the Roxy.

In 1994, Judy Weinstein recruited Hector Romero to work at Def Mix Productions and assist in the creation of Definity Records, an imprint Weinstein and partner David Morales was working on launching. Hector found he was not as interested in Remixing or Producing but he loved the balance between the creative DJ and the businessman. A&R, and working on the business end of Music, was a better fit. Weinstein took him under her wing and taught him the technique of good business management. The longtime business arrangement garnered him the position of Label Manager of Definity Records the Def Mix imprint.

He's invited special guest Fred Everything to join him as well as party residents Rissa Garcia (Dancing Room Only) and Sean Cormac & Chili Davis (Forward Disco).
